ZU Zayed University

Zayed University (ZU), established in 1998, is the newest of the three government sponsored higher educational institutions in the United Arab Emirates. The other two institutions are the Higher Colleges of Technology established in 1988 and the United Arab Emirates University established in 1976. Zayed University was named in honor of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the country's first president and founder.
Zayed University is organized academically into six colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business Sciences, Communication and Media Sciences, Education, Information Technology and University College.
English is the medium of instruction except in courses in Arabic and Islamic studies. Because of this, students may need to spend up to two years in an English language preparatory program before entering the bachelor's program. The first two years in the university are in a general education program in University College (Colloquy), providing a broad grounding in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Students then move into the majors which are housed in the colleges.
Research and outreach are given particular emphasis at ZU. A Research Incentive Fund provides up to US$325,000 in assistance annually to support research and scholarly and creative endeavors, stimulating ideas and interests which benefit faculty, the university and the UAE. ZU is increasingly hosting prestigious international events. In 2006, the Women as Global Leaders Conference, organized by Zayed University, attracted delegates from88 countries and leading women speakers including Queen Rania of Jordan and former president of Ireland, Mary Robinson. The university offers a number of graduate programs in administration, arts, business, communications, health care and education leadership, and science.

Dubai Gold

Dubai is the regional Gold hub and largest Gold trading centre in the entire Middle East. Dubai is one of seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates (the UAE) on the Persian Gulf... sometimes the main city in Dubai is called "Dubai City" in order to distinguish it from it's emirate name... Dubai is the most populous emirate of the United Arab Emirates.

Dubai has one of the most successful economies in the Middle East... part of the reason for Dubai's economic success is found within it's favorable investment climate, created in part by lucrative business and tax incentives, as well as, the creation of special free trade zones, like the Jebel Ali Free Zone, also known as; JAFZ and JAFZA.Dubai is becoming increasingly known as the "City of Gold"... in recent years, Dubai has become the fastest growing Gold centre in the world... Dubai now imports hundreds of tons of Gold annually from all the major manufacturing centers of the world. The quality of Dubai's Gold is famous, as is the impressive variety of stylish designs... another reason for Dubai's successful Gold industry is the free trade environment, which makes Dubai one of the cheapest places in the world to buy Gold jewellery.

Dubai's famous Gold Souk, one of the largest retail gold markets in the world, started in the 1900's with just a handful of retailers... it grew substantially in the 1940's and 50's when it also got an ornate wooden covering... this was updated in the 70s with the rapid expansion brought on by the oil boom... it has now grown to nearly 400 retail and wholesale units, including over 275 retailers; all this in an area of half a square kilometer.
Dubai's Gold Souk has been modernized, and shop displays are constantly being refurbished to adhere to international standards... but despite the growth in size, the Souk remains a tantalizing introduction to the Arabian world, with narrow alleys and traditional wooden archways, all set against hundreds of shops displaying tons of Gold, Diamonds and other precious Gems.
In recent years, new Gold shopping centres have also been built, including the sophisticated Gold and Diamond Park, New Gold Souk Center, Gold Land, Gold Centre and Gold House.
A recent study of Dubai found that;
* 95% of all tourists buy Gold when visiting Dubai.
* 76% of all Dubai residents own Gold.
* 80% of Dubai residents intend on buying Gold within the next year.
The Dubai Govt. has recently increased it's efforts to further advance Dubai as a global leader in the Gold industry by developing the "Dubai Metals & Commodities Centre" (the DMCC)... the DMCC is a strategic government initiative offering a unique opportunity for participants in a wide range of commodities industries... it provides facilities that bring together the entire value chain of Goldd and Precious Metals participants with all the relevant support industries such as finance, logistics and insurance, including the refining, manufacturing and trading of Gold.
The DMCC is currently the only UAE free zone authority offering freehold property options on business premises in addition to all other free zone benefits -including 100% business ownership, a 50 year tax holiday, and a one stop shop facility for processing of all documentation including immigration and licensing needs. The DMCC's 300-hectare development is situated in the heart of "new" Dubai adjacent to Dubai 's newest projects including The Palm Island and the Dubai Marina... and is strategically located in close proximity to the major port of Jebel Ali and in easy reach of Dubai International Airport, the DMCC lies between the fifth and sixth interchange on the Sheikh Zayed highway.

Dubai.. A Shopping Paradise

Dubai.. A Shopping Paradise

Dubai justly deserves its title as the "Shopping Capital of the Middle East". Being an open port with low import duties and no taxation, the city offers the bargain hunters unbeatable value. Most major brand-name products are readily available and are often less expensive in Dubai than their country of origin.

Ardent shoppers will find plenty of opportunities to develop their skills and flex their plastic. Prices are competitive for many products, from gold to electronic goods, and textiles to designer labels.

Favourite places to seek your dream items are the magnificent shopping malls, the unassuming souks and the popular streets dispersed all over Dubai.

Modern shopping malls are conveniently located throughout the city, their marble walls and efficient air conditioning providing a cool welcome to the customers. Whether you are looking for French fashion, Japanese electronics or Italian accessories and footwear, Dubai''s malls have it all. The popular malls are more than just a place to shop; in the evenings and on weekends, there''s a lively, social buzz to them and they are full of people window shopping, meeting friends & eating out.

Souk shopping can be entertaining as well as profitable, and bargaining is expected. The sheer variety of goods available in the winding alleys is bewildering-from gold and latest in electronics, cameras and wrist watches to spices, silks, household appliances and sports goods.

Dubai''s major shopping areas include Al Riqqa Road, Karama, Al Dhiyafa Road and Bani Yas Square, not forgetting the Dubai Duty Free complex at the airport.

You will have no problem exchanging money, withdrawing money or paying for goods in Dubai. ATMs (Automatic Teller Machines, service tills or cash points) are readily accessible. Most cards are accepted by the plethora of banks in Dubai, which offer international access through "Cirrus" or "Plus" ATMs. Credit cards are widely accepted, the exception being small traders in souks and local convenience stores. Accepted international credit cards include American Express, MasterCard, Visa and Diners Club.

US currency is also widely accepted, even by ubiquitous local stores. Since the Dirham is pegged to the US dollar, the exchange rate offered is broadly the same throughout Dubai. For the astute shopper though, the bets bargains are secured by using the local currency. There are numerous money exchange bureaus in major shopping area and the souks. Being equipped with dirhams will make shopping a whole lot quicker, hassle free and potentially translate into some cash discounts for you.

Bargaining
Although bargaining is often an alien way of doing business for many, it is a time honoured tradition in this part of the world. Vendors will often drop the price quite substantially for a cash sale, especially in the souks. So relax and take your time- bargaining can be fun!

The key to bargaining is to decide what you are happy to pay for the item and walk away if you don''t get it for the desired price. Always be polite and amiable when bargaining. Start with a customary greeting and know the value of the item in the negotiation; you can learn this by scouting around in other shops. Ask the shop assistant how much the item is for and when he tells you, look surprised, or indifferent! In the souk, a common rule is to initiate offer half the quoted price. Once you''ve agreed to a price, that''s it- it''s a verbal contract and you are expected to buy. Remember shopkeepers are old pros and have an instinct for a week moment!

Away from souks, bargaining is not a common practice, although many stores often operate a set discount system, saying that the price shown is "before discount". It''s always worth asking, especially if you are paying with cash.

Schools, colleges and universities in Dubai

Schools, colleges and universities in Dubai

The UAE offers a fully-fledged educational system for both boys and girls from primary level to university, with education for the country''s citizens being provided free through government schools, colleges and universities. There is also an extensive private education sector which now accounts for around 40 per cent of the student population.

Over half a million students are now at school or in college, while several thousand students, of both sexes, are pursuing courses of higher education abroad at Government expense.

Education from primary to secondary level is universal and compulsory and literacy rates are comparable to the norm in developed countries. An adult illiteracy programmed conducted in association with the UAE Women''s Federation is helping to eradicate illiteracy among the older members of society. There is a strong focus on computer literacy and on English language teaching in higher education to equip young Emirates with the necessary skills.

State-funded educational opportunities in the UAE have blossomed since the establishment of the Federation when only a tiny minority of the population had access to formal education. A comprehensive free education system is now available to all students, male and female. At the start of the 1999/2000 academic year, 336,135 students enrolled in over 640 government schools throughout the country. Substantial progress has also taken place in the private sector which accounts for nearly 40 per cent of the student population at kindergarten, primary and secondary level.

In addition the UAE''s youth have ready access to higher education, both federally-funded and at the many internationally accredited private institutions that are being established throughout the UAE. Generous grants are also available for those wishing to study abroad.
Educational Strategy

Although the UAE has achieved much in the field of education there is a real awareness that constant updating of policy and continual investment in infrastructure is required to ensure that graduates are properly equipped to enter the workforce and assist in the country''s development. To this end, the Ministry of Education has released a draft policy document outlining a strategy for educational development in the UAE up to the year 2020 based on several five - year plans. The strategy aims to introduce the latest information technology at all levels including a computer for every 10 students at kindergarten, every five students at primary school, every two students at preparatory school, and a computer for every student at secondary school. The primary focus of attention will be on the needs of students, especially through the promotion of self-learning and continuous education programs. T here will also be training programs for teachers since surveys have shown that although the majority of students can use computers and the Internet, their teachers we re less familiar with this technology.

Cooperation between the public and private sectors at this stage in the country''s progress is considered to be essential and so the draft policy document features the establishment of a council for educational development, comprising senior education-alists, government officials and businessmen to assist in raising finance for infrastructure and information technology projects. It also envisages the setting up of a special fund comprising governmental and private bodies.

The emiratisation of teaching staff is scheduled to reach 90 per cent by the year 2020,a necessary development if the UAE''s Islamic traditions and principles are to be safeguarded.

Car Rental in Dubai | Car Hire in Dubai | UAE

In Dubai there are endless car rental companies, which can be found at the airport and outlets throughout the city. You can rent vehicles ranging from economy models i.e. Nissan Micras to top of the range performance cars such as Ferraris and off road 4x4’s.
Exploring Dubai in your own motor vehicle provides great flexibility. To hire a motor vehicle drivers must be aged over 21 to drive a small economy car and over 25 to drive a vehicle with an engine capacity over 2 litres. Please be advised you are not allowed to drive anyone else's car unless you hold a UAE driving license. Please note an international driving license is insufficient and should you be involved in an accident no insurance company will cover the claim.
Don’t forget to drive on the right hand side of the road and always ensure you and your passengers wear a seatbelt. Please be aware there are different sets of driving criteria in Dubai, these along with drivers signals may differ from you own country. E.g. if a driver does flash you from behind you should pull over and let him pass, another unusual unwritten rule is road rage does not exist, at no stage be tempted to vent your anger in any form of hand signal as this is a criminal offence and you may find yourself in prison.

Budget Hotels in Abu Dhabi

Budget Hotels in Abu Dhabi

Let's be frank about this one. Abu Dhabi is not a budget destination. It aims and continues to aim for the high flyer, and especially the business traveller. With it's cultural ambitions as a tourist destination, and the new hotels coming to market, most are pitched at 4 or 5 star rather than at 3 or 2 start. That said, there are a few hotels worth staying at, if you are aiming to spend your time away from your hotel, and just using the bed to crash and shower to clean.

Below is a selection of good budget hotels in the Abu Dhabi city centre area. Due to UAE’s recent popularity, Abu Dhabi is fast becoming a favourite place to visit next to Dubai. Despite Abu Dhabi being larger then neighbouring Dubai, it does have fewer hotels and picking up deals can be hard. However this is soon to change and already, many new hotels are opening to cater for the capital’s rising demand.

Visiting Abu Dhabi may not necessarily be a cheap holiday option. But if you are on a shoestring, you can find digs that are decent in order for you to have a good time. The hotels listed below may not have an onsite gym, pool and numerous fancy restaurants. But they provide a comfortable night’s sleep so you can enjoy the newly built Abu Dhabi Beach on the Corniche and vast entertainment outlets.

What you need to be aware of are the fact that there may be prostitutes in abu dhabi and some of abu dhabi's hotels. You can find reference to it elsewhere on the internet. We have tried to cover off places where they do not frequent, but sadly, nefarious activity can occur. We think that those listed below should be exempt from this; however we are not 100% confident. The hotels that have a a reputation for this are the Howard Johnson Diplomat, Abu Dhabi and the Al Diar Dana Hotel, Abu Dhabi. which are both in the city centre. This may change as time moves on and the authorities enforce penalties, but at the moment we are uncomfortable with recommending these hotels and thus these two hotels are not on our recommendation list Here are the hotels that we do recommend :

- Kingsgate Hotel Abu Dhabi
- Grand Continental Flamingo Hotel Abu Dhabi
- Park Inn Abu Dhabi
- International Rotana Inn Abu Dhabi
- Euro Hotel Apartments
- Ramee Garden Hotel Apartments
- Emirates Plaza Hotel

Best Hotels in Abu Dhabi

Best Hotels in Abu Dhabi

The Abu Dhabi hotel scene is on fire, with world beating hotels opening in Abu Dhabi, almost monthly, and so now the new hotels in Abu Dhabi that have launched in the last 5 years or so are now vying to the best Abu Dhabi hotels. But with many more hotels all in the offing, this best of list of hotels looks to be an ever changing list. Just as Abu Dhabi is changing, so the hotels scene changes with it - and as Abu Dhabi pitches itself as a luxury destination, the hotels are pitched in the same way. You only need to look at the recent additions to the hotel scene. Abu Dhabi, from a hotel perspective, has changed significantly in the last 10 years when there were only a handful of decent hotels around. There still aren't that many budget hotels is Abu Dhabi, but if you are looking for some of the best hotels around, some of the top 10 hotels in the UAE would come out of the top ten hotels in Abu Dhabi. But the question you are looking at is this: which hotels in Abu Dhabi are the best hotels in Abu Dhabi? Or indeed, which is the best hotel in Abu Dhabi. Well, everyone has a best choice, whether it is the hotels with the best service, or most exclusive hotel, or even the most expensive hotel, but the best hotels will usually be among the most popular hotels in Abu Dhabi. What we have tried to do is put together a number of lists of hotels to get to the elusive list, based on the hotels we have visited .We may not have stayed at all the hotels, but we certainly have a view on every single hotel that we recommend. And because we are impartial, we have only included the very best hotels here. As better hotels come to market, we will review and update list, where appropriate. But bear in mind that just because a hotel is new, doesn't mean that it will automatically join the list. There needs to be something of a "wow factor" to it.

And now that Abu Dhabi is competing with Dubai as a destination, Abu Dhabi competes with Dubai for hotels. It's simple - as a destination, Abu Dhabi needs to be different and best at different things. Well, proof is in the pudding. We would love to hear from you once you have visted some of the hotels on out list and tell us whether they are any good. Hopefully they aren't the worst hotels you will stay at - and hopefully they will be one of the best, not just best in Abu Dhabi, but best ever.

There are lots of hotel deals that you can check, but we have tried to give you some different options, looking not just at the best hotels or luxury hotels, but we have considered the other end of the scale to give you a view of the budget hotels in Abu Dhabi as well as more mid range hotels. Finally, we have an alternative list which hopefully provide you with another option to check other reviews and do more research as you find the hotel that meets your need. But, let's be frank, hotels in Abu Dhabi are expensive, so there has to be another choice, unless you can get a great deal. There are often deal on hotels in Abu Dhabi, so it's worth looking around, so that you don't blow your budget at where you will be sleeping. And our list can't be all things to all people - people will disagree - and that's great - all part of the discussion and debate. Your review may be different to ours, but it's ok to have an opinion!

We haven't created a list for 7 star hotels in Abu Dhabi, because there is officially only one 7 star hotel in Abu Dhabi, which is the Emirates Palace. And at $3bn, you would have thought so. But many of the 5 star hotels are superior hotels and sit neatly in a class together. Of course there aren't as many Abu Dhabi hotels as there are Dubai ones, but in 10 years time, that may be different, just because Abu Dhabi is larger, with many islands. In the meantime, you can go through our top ten abu dhabi hotels list knowing that that you have a decent cross section of hotels in Abu Dhabi.

And finally, these hotels are personal choices, so please do research before you book your hotel. These Abu Dhabi lists of hotels are as much about determining the best ones as they are about giving some direction to the new traveller to Abu Dhabi, booking theith hotel for the first time. Hopefully, we have given some clarity to your reesearch and that are eventually able to pick the right hotel in Abu Dhabi that makes your stay a special one. Here are our best of lists:

UAE

The United Arab Emirates, often abbreviated as UAE or shortened to The Emirates, is a federation situated in the southeast of the Arabian Peninsula in Southwest Asia on the Persian Gulf, bordering Oman and Saudi Arabia and sharing sea borders with Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Iran.
Termed emirates because they are ruled by emirs, they are Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm al-Quwain. The capital is Abu Dhabi, which is also the country's center of political, industrial and cultural activities.
Before 1971, the UAE was known as the Trucial States or Trucial Oman, in reference to a 19th-century truce between the United Kingdom and several Arab Sheikhs. The name Pirate Coast was also used in reference to the area's emirates from the 18th to the early 20th century.
The UAE's political system, based on its 1971 Constitution, is composed of several intricately connected governing bodies. Islam is the official religion, and Arabic is the official language.
Its oil reserves are ranked as the world's sixth-largest and the UAE possesses one of the most-developed economies in West Asia. It is the thirty-fifth-largest economy at market exchange rates, and has a high per capita gross domestic product (GDP), with a nominal per capita GDP of US$47,407 as per the International Monetary Fund (IMF). It is 15th in purchasing power per capita and has a relatively high Human Development Index for the Asian continent, ranking thirty-second globally. The UAE is classified as a high-income developing economy by the IMF.
Although the UAE has a constitution and a president, it is neither a constitutional monarchy nor a republic. It is a federation of seven monarchies, whose rulers retain absolute power within their emirates. The emirs chose one of their number to be the president of the federation, but this does not alter the monarchical character of the government of the emirates. The constitution is concerned solely with the relations between the emirates as members of the federation, and does not prescribe a constitutional system of government.
The UAE is a founding member of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, and a member state of the Arab League. It is also a member of the United Nations, the Organisation of the Islamic Conference, the OPEC, and the World Trade Organization.
